Event Details

This course will be offered over the course of two consecutive Fridays:

  • Session One: Friday afternoon, December 14, 2:00pm – 5:00pm
  • Session Two: Friday morning, December 21, 9:00am – 12:00pm

Session One

This session will focus on energy code requirements and will include a workshop to allow participants to work through typical energy code reporting requirements. Specifically, this session will cover:

  • Review of 2016 New York City Energy Conservation Code
  • Responsibilities of architect and design teams during design
  • Strategies for streamlined energy code compliance reporting
  • Common NYC Department of Building objections
  • Construction phase responsibilities

Session Two

This session will focus on developing a practical understanding of current energy modeling programs and metrics. It will also present ideal workflow integration of energy analysis in a typical project schedule. Participants will be able to understand and apply early design workflows that provide energy performance feedback for projects that seek to meet or exceed the energy code. Specifically, this session will cover:

  • Introduce energy modeling programs, the purposes of these programs and their models, and energy modeling standards (process loads and building schedules)
  • Setting performance goals early, both for code compliance and energy savings
  • Integration of energy modeling within the design process and owner’s project requirements, not just for building commissioning
  • Review of sample reports and how to interpret this data to make informed design decisions
  • How to present the most relevant energy modeling data to clients

Instructor: Paula Zimin, AIA, Director, Sustainable Building Services, Steven Winter Associates
