How can architects, planners, builders, and building managers ensure good design while meaningfully addressing communities about which there are many assumptions? What if buildings could make communities stronger and more vibrant by retaining the success stories who most frequently leave, taking their dollars, their examples, and their re-investment potential to other markets?

This lecture will explore the socioeconomic culture in and around architectural projects to create more sustainable, vibrant and successful buildings and open spaces. It will look at how to value impact within projects to go beyond doing no harm and become economically restorative. This lecture will also explore how active engagement with neighborhood inhabitants can create stronger, healthier communities.

Speakers:
Susan Kaplan, LEED Fellow, President, BuildingWrx
Majora Carter, Founder, Majora Carter Group
