The sessions bring together leaders from a variety of industries, from architects, developers and planners to policy makers, sociologists, and anthropologists, who will discuss new forms of public space, modes of living and manufacturing in New York City, and the expanding role of design. This will be the third event in the series focusing on manufacturing. Manufacturing in all its facets has deeply affected the nature of cities due to its relationship to communities, economy, demographics, and the physical character of neighborhoods. Coupled with the increased pressure of globalization, manufacturing has threatened the unique character of local neighborhoods. And so, can new approaches in design and manufacturing help engender a new local identity? Can manufacturing mix, hybridize, or co-exist as an integral part of a more inclusive and varied framework for cities? Join us for a half-day of workshops and participatory talks to reveal and re-frame new opportunities for how manufacturing can actively reshape the urban fabric.Following the workshop, join us at the Brooklyn Fashion + Design Accelerator for the annual BF+DA Positive Impact Awards.
