Retrofit Anchoring of Masonry and Stone Facades

Join Guy Mazza and Larry Burkhardt for two consecutive seminars on masonry and stone façades. Mazza and Burkhardt will offer insights on cost-effective ways to approach repairs involving masonry wall construction and their preservation. Attendees have the option to register for one course or they can register for both. 

You will receive 1.0 LU/HSW for the Retrofit Masonry course and 2.0 LU/HSW for the Practical Masonry Repair course. In order to receive credits for these seminars, attendees will be asked to sign in at the beginning. 

First Hour: Retrofit Anchoring of Masonry and Stone Facades 
Speaker: Guy Mazza, Prosoco, Inc.

This workshop offers an overview of how to approach issues with existing masonry and stone façade instability, the cause and recognition of these problems, and the cost-effective re-anchoring solutions for repair involving various masonry wall construction techniques. A detailed look into the different types of retrofit anchoring systems available to stabilize existing masonry and stone facades. A demonstration will follow this presentation.

Second Hour: Practical Masonry Repair (Demo)
Speaker: Larry Burkhardt, Technical Manager, Conproco

This course deals with the preservation of existing concrete and masonry facades. The course includes a classroom component and a hands-on component. A demonstration will follow this presentation.

Learning Objective 1:
This course will provide architects, engineers, designers and specifiers with the necessary tools to make an informed selection and specification of the demonstrated materials for the repair of masonry.

Learning Objective 2:
Detail to the specifier what proper substrate preparation is required for long lasting, safe and compatible repairs.

Learning Objective 3:
Understand the process of evaluating and determining the material selection process for the preservation of concrete and masonry facades.

Learning Objective 4:
Proper preparation of the substrate, bonding procedures, finishing for vertical repair, color matching and crack repair will be demonstrated to promote structural integrity.

About the Speakers:
Guy Mazza is Prosoco’s Regional Sales Manager in the Northeastern U.S. region, supporting customers in Maryland, eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Delaware. Mazza has more than 20 years of industry experience, including 10 years working specifically with high-performance coatings chemistry. With eight years at Prosoco, he is uniquely prepared to take on the types of challenges design professionals in the Northeast face, including solutions for façade restoration and whole building retrofits and adaptive reuse projects.

Larry Burkhardt has been working in the masonry restoration and coatings industry for 20+ years. Burkhardt is currently a sales and technical manager with Conproco, where he works with specifiers and contractors to complete successful building repairs. His areas of expertise include masonry repair, masonry cleaning and masonry coatings. Burkhardt has served on the board of the Baltimore Washington Chapter of ICRI. He is currently serving on the board of the SWRI and is also a member of APT. Burkhardt began his career in restoration working for Cathedral Stone Products. He's studied with experts in the masonry restoration field while traveling to France, Holland, and Germany.
