As a global city, New York City has become a leader in studying, planning for, and implementing solutions in response to various aspects of extreme climate change. In a time of ever-increasing sea-level rise, projects conceived to protect New York City and the entire metropolitan area can range from small-scale, local solutions to large-scale, multi-jurisdictional projects that can be measured in billions of dollars.

What are the best mitigation and adaptation strategies? How can we protect our people, cities, communities, landscapes, and infrastructure in the future? What are the costs? Social and community, financial, insurance, health and mental health, etc.? What else should be on the table? Join us for a dialogue to address some of these issues through the lens of large-scale projects under consideration or under way for the Tri-state Area.

Speakers:
Malcolm Bowman, PhD, PE,
Professor of Oceanography and Distinguished Service Professor, and Head, Stony Brook Storm Surge Research Group, Stony Brook University
Klaus Jacob, Special Research Scientist, Columbia University Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory

Moderator:
Ellen Neises
, Executive Director, PennPraxis; Adjunct Professor of Landscape Architecture, PennDesign
